More than a quick look and a clean
A comprehensive dental examination at Sienna Smiles assesses your teeth, gums, occlusion, temporomandibular joint, and oral soft tissues — because roughly 90% of Australian adults have experienced dental decay at some point (AIHW 2024), and early detection remains the most effective way to manage it. New patient check-up, clean and X-rays from $299.
Every check-up covers this
Full oral examination
Your dentist (general dental practitioner) conducts a systematic clinical assessment of every tooth surface, the gingival tissues, occlusion, and temporomandibular joint — not only the areas of concern. According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, half of all Australian adults have untreated dental decay, making comprehensive screening essential.
Digital X-rays
Bitewing and periapical radiographs detect interproximal caries (decay between teeth), alveolar bone changes, and pathology that is not visible during a visual examination alone. Digital sensors emit up to 80% less radiation than traditional film-based X-rays.
Intraoral camera
High-magnification intraoral photography displays your teeth and gums on-screen in real time, so you can observe exactly what your dentist identifies during the examination.
Periodontal assessment
Probing depths around each tooth are measured using a calibrated periodontal probe and charted to evaluate bone support and identify early-stage periodontal disease. According to the AIHW, approximately 30% of Australian adults aged 35 and over have moderate to severe periodontitis.
Oral cancer screening
A systematic visual and tactile examination of the tongue, buccal mucosa, floor of mouth, soft palate, and oropharynx checks for mucosal changes, ulceration, or suspicious lesions. HealthDirect Australia recommends routine oral cancer screening as part of regular dental check-ups.
Bite and TMJ check
Your occlusion (how upper and lower teeth meet) and temporomandibular joint are assessed for bruxism indicators, joint crepitus, clicking, limited range of motion, or malocclusion.
Existing restoration review
All existing crowns, composite or amalgam fillings, veneers, and bridges are inspected for marginal breakdown, secondary caries, fracture lines, or early signs of restoration failure.
Professional scale and polish
Supragingival and subgingival calculus and bacterial plaque biofilm are removed using ultrasonic and hand scaling instruments, followed by prophylactic polishing to smooth tooth surfaces.
Fluoride treatment
Topical fluoride varnish is applied where clinically indicated to remineralise enamel and reduce dentine hypersensitivity — a measure supported by the Australian Dental Association's preventive care guidelines.
Written oral health plan
You leave with a documented summary of clinical findings, prioritised treatment recommendations with estimated costs, and personalised home care instructions.
